When one reads A Midsummer Night�s Dream, only the dialogue is available to reveal the personalities of the characters. behavior, body language, and especially the dress of each character enriches the experience when one sees the play.

    Bottom was a crude character who ordered others around. He was rather over weight also. From this we got our Bottom, Pearce Shea. We thought he was a good choice because he can be comical in appearance. To make him better fit the role of Bottom we dressed him up in a bizarre way. To give him a large ponch, we rolled up a sweater and put it under his shirt. As for his pants, he wore them backwards and put a rolled up shirt in the back.

    As for Egeus and Theseus, we saw them as stately business men. They each wore dress clothes, with Theseus in a complete suit. Egeus was played by Daren Brantley and Theseus was played by Nick Smith. The queen, Hippolyta, is from a high social class. It is for this reason that she wears an elegant dress.

    The characteristics of the four lovers are also displayed by their attire. Lysander is the rebel that no father wants their daughter to marry. He is dressed in a leather jacket and wears a chain. Hermia is a preppy, well-to-do young lady. She wears a yellow shirt with a flower on it and tight khakis. Lysander and Hermia are played by Nick Smith and Rachel Hail, respectively. For Demetrius and Helena, we saw a completely different image. Demetrius is a well dressed man who is adored by Egeus. He wears a white polo shirt and khakis. Helena is a girl from a lower social class. Like Hermia, she is kind, beautiful and very generous. She wears overalls and a flannel shirt. This couple was played by Chris Parker and Maressa Mayheugh.

    The fairies were dressed in more exotic outfits. Titania, the fairy queen, wore a light and airy white dress. She was played by Rachel Haile. Oberon, on the other had, had a dark slyness about him. He was dressed entirely in black, complete with sun glasses. He was played by Chris Parker. Puck, the mischievous fairy assistant of Oberon, was a discordant and fanciful being. He was dressed in dress slacks, a jacket, and a bright blue shirt. He wore a tall, red and white striped hat. The minor fairies, the assistants of Titania, wore orange skirts and a green top with tights and a jester�s hat. Puck and the minor fairies were played by Daren Brantley.
